What’s Couchsurfing?

Couchsurfing, for those unfamiliar with it, involves allowing total strangers from around the world to stay in your home or simply hosting them as informal tour guide during their stay in your city. In exchange for your hospitality, you are rewarded with fascinating conversations, unexpected adventures, and the right to do the same in other people’s homes when you travel yourself.

The best way to couchsurf is by finding people through the website of the nonprofit organization Couchsurfing.org. The site provides names, profiles, and references of potential couchsurfers, so that you can feel secure that the people you’re staying with are people with whom others have had good experiences.

Personally, I’ve yet to have a truly bad CS experience, although I have had my share of mishaps. Read the bulgogi and cmunda stories for more on that…
